Differentiating Instruction
First Grade Math
In math I Differentiated instruction by first giving the students a pre-assessment from the math program enVisionMATH. I gave the students the topic 14 test that is available on Pearson SuccessNet. I inputted the students scores into Pearson SuccessNet and used the classroom test report breakdown to see what topics the students already had mastered and what they did not. For each topic I created an on-level group which had students that had scored not mastered and then a challenge group that had scored mastered on the assessment. The on-level group was run by my cooperating teacher, she worked on the envisions math packet for each topic, going over each problem one at a time and all together. In the challenge group I let the students do the math packet independently and I was there with them to answer any questions. Depending on how quickly students worked through the packet, I either had students check their answers with a partner or we went over the packet together once everyone was finished. Then I had the students do challenge worksheets. Which covered the same materials but in a more challenging way. I walked the students through the worksheet and often did the first problem with them. Then students either did the worksheets independently or in pairs and we checked our answers together once everyone finished. After the post test I took the data and planned a review day. Whatever topic students scored not mastered in I copied the reteach and quick check for that topic for them. Students that scored mastered in
